SoLow Fest PDX Launch Party and Preview Show
@Curious Comedy Theatre
5225 NE MLK Jr Blvd
SoLow Fest PDX Launch Party and Preview Show, featuring introductions and teaser performances from the artists participating in the festival. This event is free and open to the public.
SoLow Fest is a do-it-yourself festival dedicated to new, experimental work focusing on solo performance that defies conventional theater expectations. With all shows being pay-what-you-will (PWYW), we proudly present exposure to performers who are breaking new ground in the raw. Started in Philadelphia in 2010, this will be the first year of SoLow Fest in Portland.
The 2019 festival is June 13-23.
For a full lineup and more information, visit www.solowpdx.com
Among the complete SoLow Fest lineup you might recognize a few Artpunk Club favorites: Julia Brandenberg from her work in the ICP Showcase last month, and Claire Aldridge (of Red Balloon fame) from her pitch-perfect performance of Grendel in Rutabaga's Fire and Meat. And if you're new to Artpunk Club and missed Linda Austin's Ordinary Devotions back in March, you're in mega luck, because it's back for one weekend as part of the festival!
Why We’re Excited:
A theatre artist moves to this town, immediately gets involved in the clowning community, and brings with her a new performance-based festival which takes place in unconventional spaces--think an underground house show, but for performance art. What's not to get excited about?
SoLow promises peculiar and avant-garde art experiences in intimate venues with PWYC prices, and we CANNOT WAIT. This preview event is a free party with mini preview performances, so it's the PERFECT no-presh chance to get a taste of Portland's perfermance art underground, find out what "avant garde" even means, and clock what you want to check out throughout the festival!

Why We’re Excited: Oh man, you guys. As lovers of speculative fiction and sci-fi, we were already pretty into seeing this show. But then we saw the trailer (!!!) and knew we had to talk to the folks behind it. This production promises to be very collaborative, and has made a point of giving a lot of creative freedom to some of Portland theatre’s most accomplished behind-the-scenes badasses, and we are really, really, really excited to see the world they’ve built.
BONUS: This production has teamed up with Our House and the Cascade AIDS Project, putting in volunteer hours and using the show as a fundraiser for CAP, so you can see a great show and support a great cause at the same time!
DOUBLE SECRET BONUS: Check out our interview with Mamie Colombero about the show! We love her whole vibe!
