The best art for your buck in Portland, for the week of May 27th–June 2nd 2019
WEDNESDAY, MAY 29TH- THURSDAY, MAY 30TH @ 7:30pm
Arlington [a love story] (preview)
@ Coho Theatre
2257 NW Raleigh St
A young woman waits alone in a room for her number to be called. On the other side of the wall, a young man watches her and weighs a choice that could change her destiny and his. The line between dreams and reality blurs in this “riveting fever dream of a play” (The New York Times). In a dangerous, dystopian world, what if love is the most powerful act of resistance?
Arlington [a love story] runs May 31st - June 22nd.
Familiar Faces: You might recognize Kayla Hanson from her performance as a cool big brother in Artpunk Club pick A Dark Sky Full of Stars at Theatre Vertigo just a few weeks ago, and we are super stoked to see her back onstage in Arlington as the young woman awaiting her fate.
Why We’re Excited: Third Rail honestly does SUCH a good job, and we have a real ideology-crush on their mission to “provoke dialogue, encourage empathy, and inspire curiosity.” Third Rail shows have high production values, top-tier acting talent, and tend to feature intimate stories with rich, nuanced characters. Although their GA tickets are just out of a Brokeass-Artpunk-under-$25 budget, the lovely people at Third Rail offer PWYC preview tickets for their final two rehearsals. It’s a hell of a bargain for a can’t-miss theatre company!
BONUS: This show is hosted at Coho in NW, so it’s a great neighborhood to make a night of it! Head over early, and hit the Freakybuttrue Peculiarium, which boasts a number of attractions for only $5 a head (decent costumes and pets get in free). The bizarro museum(???) closes at six, leaving the perfect amount of time to mosey over to the theatre and snap up your tickets just as the box office opens at 6:30. Is there a dreamier date night than a peculiarium and a dystopian love story? Of course there isn’t.
DOUBLE BONUS PROTIP: Next time you’re bumming around NW 23rd, get spontaneous and see if you can score seats a show! Third Rail has a KILLER rush ticket deal--at 7:15, any unsold tickets are just $15. It’s like a perfect present for arthead procrastinators, and for those of us juggling side hustles so hard it’s difficult to plan a night out ahead!
Tickets at the door only, box office opens at 6:30
(But you can read more about the show here!)
